Job postings need to sizzle like a steak on the grillJob posting titles are important because they are what a candidate sees first when searching a job database on your career site or a job board. Unlike with a print publication, the posting itself is invisible until they click on the title and open up the ad. In other words, candidates on the Internet must make a conscious decision to look at your content, and their evaluation is based solely on the information that’s provided in the title.

To be effective, a job posting title must both inform and pique the curiosity of the reader. That’s true of all job seekers, but especially those who are passive. To motivate them to read on, a title must provide:

If your not using social networks to recruit and promote your company as an employer of choice, then you are in the VAST minority.  According to this recent survey 80% of companies are using social networks to recruit and almost half of the remaining companies are planning to use social networks.  I am not sure what the 11% of companies left use to recruit, but my guess is they do not do much hiring.  This trend is one of the reasons ApartmentCareers embraced social media as a recruiting tool to benefit our clients.  We were the first apartment industry recruiting portal with a significant presence in the social media networks.
